SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) - A drug dog is sporting a new piece of equipment that could save his life. Max was given a new bullet proof vest through a grant given to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's deputies say this vest is a valuable tool for one of the department's best deputies.
"Anything we can do to better protect the workers that are out in the field serving and protecting you, we would like to take advantage of that. And through this grant program, we were able to sponsor the K-9 unit with this vest program free of charge," said Colonel Eric Bryant with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.
The vest was given to the department by Vested Interests in K-9's and cost almost $1,000.
