VFD prepared for the holiday weekend

James Clinkscales James Clinkscales
VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Despite the continued hot and dry weather as of Tuesday, the Valdosta Fire Department was not planning to staff any extra firefighters during the weekend for the holiday.

Memorial Day weekend is a popular time for grilling and barbecuing, which creates an increased potential for fires. Valdosta's Fire Marshal, Cpt. James Clinkscales, said even with the hot and dry conditions adding to that, the fire department is prepared for whatever may happen.

"We [are] prepared for all holiday seasons such as Memorial Day and Fourth of July, for grilling and certain occasions. We always prepared at any given time," Cpt. Clinkscales emphasized.

Cpt. Clinkscales also emphasized that the best way to help prevent a fire is to never leave a grill unattended.
