VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Work was underway Monday to build a new electrical vault at Valdosta Regional Airport.
This will allow the airport to add a generator to power the main runway lights in case the airport looses power. This will also allow the airport to extend the security fence around the new fire station and bring the vault inside the fence.
Airport General Manager Jim Galloway said the new vault is an important step for the future of the airport.
"It just adds capability and then we'll have a new lighting control panel in the control tower that is just modernizing the lighting controls," Galloway explained.
The project was expected to cost around $425,000 and, as of Monday, was expected to be completed before the contract deadline of August 15th.
