AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - In year one under Michael Hoffpauer, the Americus-Sumter Panthers finished second in Region 1-AAAA and advanced to the Elite Eight.
The two seniors Hoffpauer says put the team on their back signed to play college ball Friday.
Juwan High and Dwight Harris will take their talents to Albany State and Chattanooga State, respectively.
Harris was a first team selection in 2015. He's headed to the juco ranks to improve his skills and hopefully find a home at a Division I school in the future.
"It was a little hard to decide at first, because I didn't know if I wanted to go to a four-year university or a juco," Harris says. "But over time, I realized that hopefully I can just be able to go to a Division One school."
High was a 2nd-team all region selection and says he's looking forward to playing close to home. He'll also be teaming up with a few other south Georgians he battled on the high school court.
"It's going to be real competitive," High says. "We just have to bring it everyday at practice, and try and get it done."
Both say they plan to go in and compete for a starting job immediately
