ALBANY, GA (WALB) - After our story last night on Albany's poverty problem, Strive 2 Thrive heard from folks who want to help them help families break the cycle of poverty.
Bernice Dixon with 1 Key Realty now plans to offer a home ownership class for families.
She says owning a home provides stability for children who then tend to do better in school.
"Homeownership is doable, everyone deserves that opportunity, every family deserves that opportunity," said Bernice Dixon, Associate Broker with 1 Key Realty. "Don't buy a home for your landlord, buy it for your family."
"It's going to take all of us because poverty actually affects us all," said Alvita Swain, Strive2Thrive Executive Director.
A local CPA is also volunteering to do financial literacy coaching and three more families signed up today to get help from Strive2Thrive.
Strive2Thrive is currently looking for volunteers for their Empowerment Summit at Albany Tech on June 30th. You can sign up by calling 229-317-7175.
