An Albany woman is convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from a man she falsely claimed fathered a child.
Regina Holmes Thompson, 42, was found guilty of felony identity theft and five thefts by deception charges.
In 2007, Thompson showed Joseph Golden, Junior her god-daughter, and told him the baby was their child.
Over the next several years, he gave her thousands of dollars to support the child.
“The hoax continued through until the time as we presented, the child was able to talk and articulate who her real parents were,” said Greg Edwards, Dougherty D.A.
The scam was unveiled when the child was three. Thursday she turned 8-years-old.
Thompson will be sentenced at a later date.
