Grant helps Darton expand recycling program

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A new grant will help Darton College expand their recycling program.

Right now, the school keeps recycling bins in different buildings around the campus.

The grant from Keep America Beautiful and the Coca-Cola Foundation will pay for portable bins for different events.

The college will get 20 new bins in a few weeks.

"We have a wide range of student activities, as well as we have facilities that the community uses, so these recycling bottle bins will allow us to collect more and recycle more for the environment,” says Grant Director Shalonda Heard.

"It's important that we can educate our faculty staff and students that this is our earth and this is all the earth and land we will ever have and we need to preserve it for future generations," says Betty Sue Story, Recycling Operations Coordinator.

Darton was one of only three colleges in the state of Georgia to get the grant.
