BAKER CO., GA (WALB) - A family with two small children is working to figure out what's next after a fire burned their home to the ground.
They are staying with relatives temporarily.
It's been a tough day for Katie Garza and her family.
The family's house burned down, not leaving much behind.
"In a few minutes everything was gone and there is nothing to salvage," said Garza.
Friends and family sifted through what was left. The family had just moved in last month and had all new appliances.
Garza says they were asleep when her husband noticed an odd smell.
"My husband said, 'do you smell something?' and I said, 'no,' and then just a few minutes later we both woke up and saw orange from our bedroom to the living room area."
Everyone got out safely, but they didn't have time to take anything with them.
"Didn't think to grab anything, just to get the kids out," Garza recalled.
She says they're hanging in there, but it's been challenging.
"Its definitely tough, I mean, you know, dad is taking it tough, because he's the one working and its all on him, but we are staying strong with our faith, and eventually it will all get replaced, its just going to take time."
She's not exactly sure what caused the fire, but believes the cause could be electrical.
