Bank robbery suspect arrested in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - WALB learned more details Thursday about a South Carolina bank robbery suspect arrested in Valdosta.

As of Thursday, 56 year old Tyrell Evans was accused of robbing First Citizens Bank in Columbia, South Carolina on September 19th, 2014 according to the Columbia, SC Police Department.

Lowndes County Sheriff's Office lt. Stryde Jones said around 10 a.m. Tuesday, Evans was arrested at 601 Monroe St. in Valdosta, where he had been staying for a while. Though, Lt. Jones said it wasn't clear if Evans intended to make that his permanent residence or was staying there on a temporary basis.

The arrest came after the U.S. Marshal Service got a crime stoppers tip that Evans was there.

"Our investigators," said Lt. Jones, "along with Columbia, South Carolina detectives, went and were able to do some surveillance and determine that Mr. Evans was there and he was subsequently arrested."

Thursday, Evans was still being held in the Lowndes County Jail waiting to be taken back to South Carolina.
