Police, firefighters, paramedics go for gold at cookoff

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Police, firefighters, and paramedics from Albany, Dougherty County, Lee County, Leesburg, and Terrell County spent the day grilling barbeque Wednesday.

Judges were on hand to see which group had the best taste at the 15th Annual Public Safety Cookoff.

It's all part of Law Enforcement Memorial Week,

and something these public safety workers get serious about in their competition.

"This is a time to come out and just enjoy hanging out with each other, away from work," said Sgt. Victor Camp with Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit. "We also think about the brothers and sisters that we've lost in the line of duty."

The Albany Police Department's "Chillin and Grillin" team won the grand championship.

These are the individual team winners:

Grand Champion: Albany Police Department “Chillin & Grillin” team.

Individual Events

Hot Wings: Probation and Parole “Flaming J & the Hulk” team

Ribs: Albany Fire Department

Boston Butt: Probation and Parole “Flaming J & the Hulk” team

Chicken: Albany Police Department “Chillin & Grillin” team
