Funding needed for ASU summer enrichment program

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The organizer of a summer enrichment program at Albany State University was disappointed to learn Tuesday night that SPLOST money can't be used to help fund his program.

Jesse Massey said he needs $20,000 to hire at least 40-staff members for the National Youth Sports Program.

It will tutoring and sports opportunities for 400 students.

Massey said the community needs to step up.

" The community plus the County, City Commission sit down, look and see what revenue or resources they have and say hey we want to make sure these children have a place to go during the summer. Here's X amount of dollars. Help. That's what we want. We need it," said Jesse Massey ASU NYSP.

The program is set to begin its 40th year in Albany on June 1st.

If people want to donate they can write a check to the ASU Foundation.
