ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A major new housing development could lead to even more revitalization.
At a community meeting Tuesday, the Albany Housing Authority shared plans for central Albany neighborhoods.
AHA leaders say revitalization is about building communities.
Phase one of the plan will include 72 units in the 500 block of west residence avenue.
"Eventually we hope to demolish two of our public housing developments, a total of 191 units, and replace those units in this neighborhood area plus some additional units," said Executive Director Dan McCarthy.
The Albany City Commission approved the plan today so the housing authority can move to the next step in applying for the housing tax credits.
It could boost their chances of winning tens of millions of dollars in federal Choice Neighborhood grant money.
