Arrest made in Atkinson Co. murder case

ATKINSON CO., GA (WALB) - Authorities say a woman has been arrested in connection to a Pearson murder, and a man is also wanted in the case.

Atkinson County Sheriff David Moore said Ansley Minkema was arrested and charged with malice murder on Sunday.

Roderick Bernard Brock is wanted for malice murder. Officials said he has a lengthy criminal record and considered armed and dangerous.

The arrest and warrant come after the death of 64-year-old Marleen Murry of Pearson. She was found dead in her home off of Hwy 64 East on Saturday.

Late this afternoon, Minkema went before an Atkinson County judge for the first time since being arrested yesterday afternoon and accused of helping murder 64 year old Marleen Murry in Murry's home around 7:00 Saturday evening.

Murry's family became concerned after her car was found in Douglas by Douglas PD Saturday. When family members went to check on her, that's when they discovered she was dead. "Immediately, it appeared not natural," said Sheriff Moore

But he wouldn't be more specific. "I need to wait for GBI clearance before I talk about that much."

We reached out to the GBI in Douglas, but never heard back.

"Douglas PD and the Coffee County Sheriff's Office are helping us with every resource they've got. We are combing Coffee County," said the sheriff.

Both Brock and Minkema live in Douglas.

Sheriff Moore says the two knew Murry and staid at her home Friday night. He says it appears that two were trying to steal Murry's medicine, but would not specify what type of medication.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is working with the sheriff's office on the case.
