Two families displaced after apartments catch fire

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - Two apartments are destroyed after they catch fire in Leesburg. One fire broke out over night and then apartment next door caught fire early in the morning.

Neighbors assisted a woman they call "grandma" and her two grandchildren.

"Cause when I saw flames all I could think is oh my god grandma oh my god the kids," said Alinda Paris.

Paris says around 11 last night she saw flames coming from "grandmas" house and didn't think twice about making sure everyone was okay.

"I jetted from my back porch and just ran," said Alinda Paris.

No one was injured in the fire, but then early this morning the apartment next door caught fire.

"We though everything was over with like they didn't think, it was just one room the one back part of

the house and all of sudden now you come back and their was another fire," said Alinda Paris.

No one was home at the time the second apartment caught fire.

A neighbor who was walking their dog saw it and called 9-1-1

"We all went to bed pretty much and later on I woke up about 7 am and when I came out the house was on fire again."

Both families are being assisted by the Red Cross. A majority of their belonging were lost in the fire.

"Everything they have, all the kids stuff is gone and everything," said Alinda Paris.
