FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) - The Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office says that Dr. Edd C. Jones was arrested Wednesday afternoon around 6:00 PM at his home on West Roanoke Ext. in Fitzgerald.
He was arrested on nine felony warrants relating to writing prescriptions for a Schedule II Narcotic for people who were not his patients.
This has been a continuing investigation by the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit and the DEA Drug Diversion Unit.
Dr. Jones now faces a total of 20 felony charges.
He was released from the Ben Hill County Jail today at 1:00 PM on a $93,700.00 property bond.
The investigation is still continuing on this case.
Jones' attorney, Jason M. Ferguson, issued this statement-
It is our understanding that these new charges all relate to the same conduct that occurred prior to the time Dr. Jones was released on bond.
Everyone should remember that Dr. Jones remains fully licensed to practice medicine, write prescriptions and treat patients. His office is open for business.
We will aggressively defend this man and his presumption of innocence is not lost by virtue of the fact that he is a doctor.
