Americus city leaders want to revitalize downtown

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Americus leaders revealed an initial strategic plan to revitalize their downtown.

UGA's Carl Vinson Institute helped develop the plan after six months of study and input from the community.

They found people want more businesses, housing, and entertainment downtown.

Community volunteers and civic groups are already working to put the plan in place.

" What's unique about this is usually you get a plan and then you have to wait for action. Again what I think is great is that in a six month planning process we have 21 short term program items that are in process right now," said Danny Bivins, Carl Vinson Institute of Government.

The city is working to get federal grant money for road projects downtown.
