VFD needs your help to help child burn victims

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta Fire Department was continuing Tuesday to encourage people to help them raise money to help child burn victims.

Firefighters were preparing to be out at several locations across the city May 7th-9th collecting monetary donations and aluminum cans.

They will recycle the cans and the money they get in return will be added to the monetary donations to help pay for local child burn victims to spend a week at a recreational camp with other burn victims.

"A lot of times, they get a little confused that we're out there collectin' for other reasons, maybe equipment, but we don't do that. This is only one of two partnerships that the Valdosta Fire Department partners with throughout the year to collect funds for," said Valdosta Fire Department Bat. Chief John Robinson.

He said no donation is too small. "Every little bit they donate to us is a big help. It don't matter if it's small change, or we've had hundred dollar donations before," Bat. Chief Robinson pointed out.

Over 100 other fire departments across the state are also participating in the fundraiser to help children in their areas.
