Americus Firefighters credit training for rescue

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Two Army Reserve paratroopers are out of the hospital after rough landings we told you about Friday.

Lt. Alex Francisco and Jon Gunn were about to land when a wind gust knocked them into power lines and trees. Francisco was taken to Macon with severe burns.

Americus firefighters credit their training and preparation for a successful rescue. "We train all the time. We have to stay ready for any kind of circumstances that happens at any kind accident or mishap," said Americus Battalion Chief Tommy Whitaker.

The two reservists are part of the 421st Quartermaster Corps based in Fort Valley.

They were training in Americus.
