Child death squad probes baby death

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty County Child Death Investigation Team is currently looking into the death of two young children.

Investigators are looking into the death of a 21 month old Darisus Thomas at Phoebe Putney Hospital.  Coroner Michael Fowler said this death could be medical, but it is still in the early stages of their investigation.

His mother took Darius to the Phoebe North ER Friday.

The mother went back early Monday morning

After several hours, she said doctors said Darius had pneumonia and they were going to admit him.

He died a few hours later.

Dougherty County Child death investigators are also looking into the death of 13-month-old Candice Sky Jordan of Albany.

She died Thursday, and preliminary autopsy results revealed nothing. Authorities are giving very little information, saying it's because of the integrity of the investigation. Now Investigators are waiting on toxicology results.

"We believe that there is an issue that needs to be resolved. And if so we will see what the pathologist says and then kind of go from there," said D. A. Greg Edwards.

The toxicology screen results could take months to return, according to Coroner Michael Fowler.
