Long time Coffee deputy hangs up the badge

DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) - Coffee County Sheriff Doyle Wooten announced that  Deputy Rodney Courson, Sr. is retiring. 

Courson began his law enforcement career in Broxton, Ga in 1979 with the Broxton Police Department. He went to work with the Douglas Police Department in 1980. 

Courson then went to work with The State of Georgia's Insurance Commissioner State Fire Marshal Division and put in 23 years of service with the State,

He came to the Coffee County Sheriff's Office in June of 2007, serving civil papers, transporting prisoners, escorting funerals and working court security.

Sheriff Wooten and his staff honored Courson with a cake and presented him with a plaque thanking him for his loyalty, dedication and service to the citizens of Coffee County.

Courson's says he'll start gardening, fishing, and spoiling his 14 grand kids, and chauffeuring his wife of 45 years. He will continue to work with the Sheriff's Office as a reserve deputy.
