AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Officials say two Army Reserve members who were parachuting got caught in some power lines and trees during a training mission near the Souther Field Airport.

Crews responded to the scene near Georgia Highway 49 North.

Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith said a woman, identified as Lt. Alex Francisco, was conscious and alert. She was airlifted to a hospital for treatment of severe burns.

A man, identified as John Gunn, was taken to Phoebe-Sumter Hospital.

"The wind kind of got up a good bit across the tarmac out here," said Sheriff Smith. "She hit the power lines and landed in this tree back here."

"There was no equipment malfunction. Jumpers just sustained rough landing with contact with the ground," said SSgt. Bridgeman with the U.S. Army Reserve.

Sheriff Smith said they are part of the 421st Quartermaster Corps in Fort Valley.
