VSU student struck while crossing street

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A VSU student was charged as of Friday with failing to yield, after police say she hit another student in a crosswalk.

At approximately 4:30 Thursday afternoon, 22 year old Nicole Lanier was hit at the intersection of Sustella Avenue and Baytree Road.

Valdosta Police Department Lt. Aaron Kirk said the driver, 21 year-old Haley Scarborough, was trying to turn left onto Baytree off of Sustella as Lanier was trying to cross Baytree.

"According to the driver, she didn't see the pedestrian and the pedestrian was in the crosswalk, which is the proper place to be, and struck her," Lt. Kirk said.

Scarborough did remain on scene after the accident.

Lanier was taken to SGMC out of precaution but was not seriously injured.
