ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany Police Chief John Proctor says his retirement announcement this week was made on a totally personal basis, saying he and his family have agreed it's time.
The 59-year-old Proctor said he had looked over goals he had set when he came to APD, and felt that he had accomplished most of them.
He said he felt the department had established the foundation for continued growth and leadership, so he feels it is time for him to spend more time with his family.
"We've got some good people in this city. It is my prayer and my hope that those folks rise to the occasion and continue to carry this city and this organization and this government forward," Proctor said.
Proctor said he has some opportunities for other jobs, and will likely take one in the future.
But for now his plans are to spend more time with his wife of 38 years, Barbara, and their children and grandchildren.
Proctor's last day will be May 29th.
