Woman, child walk away from serious crash near Pelham


The Georgia Highway Patrol is on the scene of a crash on U.S. 19 near Pelham.

It involved a tractor trailer and a compact sedan in the northbound lanes of the highway.

Officials said the driver of the car, 20-year-old Jakavia Jackson, was parked in the outer northbound lane when a tractor trailer collided with the car on the drivers side.

The driver of the truck was later identified as 54-year-old William Fransiscoe.

Officers at the scene said there was a baby inside the car a the time.

Both Jackson and the child survived and were taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Jackson is in fair condition. 

No word yet on the child's condition.

Fransiscoe was not injured.

Charges are pending as GSP continues to investigate the accident. 

Drivers in the area were urged to use caution.
