Small business still thrives in Camilla

CAMILLA, GA (WALB) - For the folks who live in Camilla, they have that hometown spirit that's not too big or too small. They have a Walmart, but also the locally owned businesses, and they have served the community for decades.

If you stop by the Twitty Feed and Seed Store, you will probably be waited on by Camilla's Mayor. Vernon Twitty is the third generation of his family to run the store, which opened in 1935.

You can get bait for a fishing trip, or seed and advice for planting your garden, even clothes. One thing you can be sure of when you go in Twitty's, you are immersed in Camilla's history.

“This is where Americana starts. This is your original mom and pop store. When my father went off to the war, my mother took over and kept it going while he was in the service,” said owner and mayor Vernon Twitty.

While the Twitty Feed and Seed has expanded since it was opened in 1935, you still have that old time feeling when you step inside.

And where else can you go to get just about anything you need, with great service from the mayor himself.
