Albany Smash-and-Grabber targets smokes, apparel

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hundreds of dollars worth of cigarettes are stolen in the smash and grab burglary of a Northwest Albany store.

The Dollar General in the 1400 block of Dawson Road was broken into at 1:40 this morning.

Surveillance video showed a tall man dressed in dark clothing threw a rock through the store's front door.

Police say the man took a store hammer, and broke the glass cigarette case, and used a clothes basket to hold $200 worth of cigarettes he grabbed from the smashed case.

As he left the store, the crook grabbed clothes off a rack and also put them in the clothes basket.

Francis Chang, 34, was charged with three counts of burglary for similar acts at this store and two others on April third.
