LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - The Valdosta Police Department and the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office were, as of Wednesday, using social media more to help them connect with the public.

Both agencies had set up Facebook pages to help them get information to the public and to give the public another way to get in touch with them. Both agencies said they were glad to have the pages and said community members were already starting to use them.

"If they have a question, not crime related, they can e-mail or message us through Facebook. There's phone numbers on the Facebook site," explained Valdosta Police Department Investigator William Shirley. "So far, it's been slow but we have had people communicate with us and that's another reason for the Facebook page," said Lowndes County Sheriff's Office Lt. Stryde Jones.
