ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The head of the Albany Police Department, John Proctor is retiring, WALB News has learned.
Chief Proctor will retire on May 29th according to letter Proctor sent to interim city manager Tom Berry dated April 24th.
The two discussed at the city department head meeting this afternoon. Berry will be assisting in finding a new chief for the Albany Police Department.
Proctor came to Albany from Tallahassee, where he was deputy chief, in May of 2009, when he was hired by then City Manager Al Lott. He had almost 30 years' experience at that time. He succeeded APD Chief James Younger.
Interim Chief Wilma Griffin led APD until Proctor's official hiring.
