ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Charlene Phipps is celebrating a $1.7 million prize from the Georgia Lottery. Phipps, 30, played the new instant game Lady Luck 7, winning a $1.7 million top prize.
Sunrise Grocery, 1608 W. Broad Ave. in Albany, sold the winning ticket Sunday evening, and she scratched it while at home.
Phipps claimed her prize Tuesday at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Columbus.
“I got my husband and asked, ‘Is this real?” she said. “It's been crazy ever since.”
At the moment, Phipps has no plans for her windfall. “I want to sit down and take it in,” she shared.
The store owner says they've had a few winning tickets in the last few years, but nothing this big.
"One time we had a 277,000, it was a fantasy five, and then we had another one, it was 700,000, and that was online tickets two, and this one was 1.7 million which we did Sunday night. That's a real big one, its a good one," says Sanjay Patel.
"That's awesome. I'm gonna come here all the time now," says Albany resident Cedrick Ingram.
