ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Area Chamber of Commerce has a new leader, at least temporarily.
Barbara Rivera Holmes, who is vice president of the Albany Dougherty Economic Development Commission, will serve as interim president of the chamber.
Holmes will split her time between the groups.
Leaders say it's an easy move because the chamber and EDC already have a close partnership.
"It's an exciting and great opportunity and very glad to be able to assist our friends at the chamber," she said.
Chris Hardy stepped down as Chamber president last week.
Chamber leaders hope to hire his replacement within three months.
A release from the chamber said Holmes will continue in her role at the ADEDC during those three months.
"The chamber and the Albany-Dougherty EDC have a long, respectful and supportive relationship. It felt like the right thing to do to reach out to the EDC and ask for their support as the chamber evaluates its next steps," said Tommy Clark, chair of the chamber's board of directors. "We're thankful that the EDC has agreed to help us during this time of transition."
Holmes joined the EDC in 2008 as its director of marketing. She assumed the role of vice president in July 2014.
