Barbecue cook-off honors first responders

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Cooks were up earlier this morning grilling at the first responders cook off at Sonny's Barbecue. Teams smoked all kinds of meats from chicken to pork butt and ribs. Organizers said its their way of honoring first-responders for the hard work they do.

"Being in law enforcement ourselves it's just our way of competing as well as giving back to our brothers and sisters that are on the front lines," said Rodger Hormell with the Drive By Smokers.

"It's about honoring our military, honoring our law enforcement, emergency medical technicians, and really just coming out to say thank you to them," said Sonny's Manager David Milliner.

Firefighters from Lee County took home the top prize of $350.
