Flags flown at half staff to remember crash victims

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Today Darton State College, and other places around town flew their flags at half staff to honor the the five nursing students killed in a car crash.

Governor Nathan Deal issued an executive order asking universities, colleges, and government offices to fly their flags at half staff.

The dean of nursing at Darton College says its been a tough time for everyone. They plan to hold a moment of silence for the five crash victims during their pinning ceremony.

“Our senior nursing students, because they are at the end of their program. They really understand the joy and anticipation of being able to move into their career field and the loss of these five individuals has hit them hard, and they would like to be able to show how saddened they are by that," says Deanna Radford, Interim Dean of Nursing.

The Senior nursing students also plan to continue funds to a Georgia Southern Nursing Scholarship.
