No security issues at flag rally

Brian Childress Brian Childress

At the post-rally news conference Friday afternoon, Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress started off by thanking the numerous law enforcement agencies that made Friday's rally a success.

Law enforcement's presence was certainly noticed during the rally. State troopers were on every corner and numerous VPD officers walked up and down each of the streets that the ralliers were allowed to walk down.

There was even a law enforcement helicopter circling above the rally.

Overall, Chief childress says he's proud of the way things went. "We did this the way it should be done and I hope this demonstrates across the country that you can protest, that you can rally, and you can not let it get out of hand. And, that's what these folks, not me, did today," said Chief Childress.

There was a contentious, albeit minor, confrontation between pro and anti flag ralliers, but law enforcement, including Chief Childress himself, was close by in case the confrontation turned into more than just words.
