VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Work to beautify one of the main entrances into the city of Valdosta was officially complete Friday.
City officials and employees held a dedication ceremony in front of the newly completed sign along N. Valdosta Rd. just south of Langdale Park Friday morning.
City workers had spent a little over a month constructing the sign and planting dozens of trees and bushes in the area.
The project's manager, Valdosta Assistant Engineering Director Emily Davenport, said these updates send an important message. "A gateway is like a first impression. So, when you come in and you see a gateway that's welcoming and attractive and it lets people know how we look at our community," Davenport expressed. "We definitely take pride in Valdosta."
Davenport said that as of Friday the city would most likely work on the southern gateway along U.S. 41 and the eastern gateway along Madison Hwy. next.
She said work would likely begin by the end of 2015.
