VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The American flag is a focal point in Valdosta today, for different reasons.
The City of Valdosta announced its compliance with the Executive Order issued by Governor Deal to fly flags at half-staff today, in honor of the five nursing students who lost their lives in Wednesday's wreck in Bryan County.
The city says that flags on all city buildings will be flown at half-staff today until sunset.
The other reason is an expected throng of people who will rally at Valdosta State University in support of the flag, which was infamously desecrated last week by Eric Sheppard, who belongs to a group known as Kovenregime, which believes that blacks are oppressed by whites and Christianity, and advocates violence.
