Some Dougherty County students are recognized for helping protect the environment.
Lake Park Elementary school received a $500 check at Wednesday's school board meeting for collecting more than 2,300 phone books.
They beat out all the other schools for the month long drive, which is put on by Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.
3rd grader Hayden Andrews collected more than 2,000 phone books on her own. "The reason I wanted to collect so many phone books is because I wanted to help the environment, because it's mostly about the environment," said Hayden.
School officials say they plan to use the money for the students.
McDonalds, Darcy Foundation and Plantation Publishing help sponsor the drive.
