VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Department of Public Health in Valdosta was reminding people Wednesday about the importance of getting infants immunized.
This week is national infant immunization week.
The department's county nurse manager, Norma Jean Johnson, said parents should consult their child's doctor first to find out what immunizations the child can and can't have.
But, she said not getting a child immunized puts that child at risk for at least 14 vaccine preventable diseases. "They really need their vaccines to help prevent them from having the diseases and also from passing these diseases on to other children who may not be able to be immunized," Johnson emphasized.
