Sign ordinance changes coming

Commissioner Tommie Postell Commissioner Tommie Postell
ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany businesses may soon be able to flash their electronic billboards more often. Today city commissioners voted four to three to approve amendments to their sign ordinance.

One of the changes would let electronic signs change every 20 seconds instead of 30.

"I looked at the safety factor and they said there would not be a problem with the safety factor moving forward to 20 seconds. So I think 20 seconds is going to be more appropriate for the city and citizens who have the businesses," said Albany City Commissioner Tommie Postell.

City commissioners will take a final vote at their next meeting.

A sign ordinance task force was formed in February 2014 to take a fresh look at the ordinance that regulates signage.
