LAKE PARK, GA (WALB) - The city of Lake Park was flying the American flag outside city hall and the fire station at half staff on Monday to show support for Michelle Manhart.
Manhart, who is a former Air Force veteran and Playboy model, was arrested at VSU on Friday for taking an American flag away from a group of protestors who were walking on it.
Lake Park's mayor, Eric Schindler, said even though what Manhart did was technically wrong, the city of Lake Park still respects her for doing what she did.
"We felt that it was important to show our support for Michelle manhart and the bravery she showed by grabing that flag. So, we're putting our flag at half mast for the three days that they protested against the flag," Mayor Schindler explained.
Mayor Schindler said the decision was made after meeting with city council members Sunday to discuss the issue.
