Visual arts competition celebrates young artists

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Congressman Sanford Bishop recognized young artists tonight at the Albany Art Museum.

The congressional institute sponsors an annual high school visual arts competition in each district.

Representative Bishop honored the best in the 2nd District.

The drawing by the overall winner from Macon will hang inside the U-S Capitol for a year

"This art competition has been in existence for 34 years, so we always look forward to seeing the artwork, and the creativity of the young people here in Southwest Georgia," says Congressman Bishop Sanford.

"I'm so excited, I think it's unbelievable, and I'm very very proud," says Alexa Martinez, a Senior at Rutland High School.

Georgia's 2nd congressional district includes 29 counties.
