LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Growing demand for pecans in China is leading to record prices here in the US. Prices have continued to increase the last few years, to as much as $4 per pound.
Experts say this demand has led to larger groves and more pecan trees. Those trees take about 8 years to produce pecans.
"Hopefully demand will hold up and these pecans will have a market, have somewhere to go at a good price," said Lee County Extension Agent Doug Collins.
Collins said the drought in California could lead to premium for Southern pecans this year as well.
