ALBANY, GA (WALB) - We could learn plans for the Phoebe North campus soon, less than a month after Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital reached a settlement with the federal government.
Employees of Phoebe North, formerly Palmyra Park Hospital, had a private meeting this afternoon to hear an idea of what's in store for the facility.
The Federal Trade Commission challenged Phoebe's purchase of Palmyra Medical Center, in December 2010. While the case went all the way to the Supreme Court, the FTC ended its challenge to the merger after a four year battle, but still maintains the purchase violates federal anti-trust law and creates a healthcare monopoly.
CEO Joel Wernick talked about the future of Phoebe North the day after the settlement was reached, saying they would look at making the best of both facilities.
He didn't rule out making the Phoebe North location a women's and children's hospital. Right now, Phoebe North is considered an acute care hospital and doesn't have all of the services as the main campus.
