TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Jack Stone is a Korean War Veteran who loves to celebrate other Veterans as well.
"A lot of people know that we have a person here from the Navy, fired the first shot of World War II," Stone said.
"We have the first pilot of the Presidential plane from here.
Stone and other people from the Tifton community came up with an idea to have a museum that pays tribute to Vets just like in other places in South Georgia.
"Moultrie has one, Douglas has one so we think we need to have one here."
The project has been in the works for several years. now and they've reached a big milestone by getting a building here at the old freight house. And the next step is to get the community involved.
"Now we're ready to start the work"
They plan to honor veterans in the local newspaper like this feature from a paper in a nearby city. Stone hopes to use the photos sent in, in the museum as well.
"We want to get every veteran in Tift County that we can whether they were in the regular army or in the reserve, or they were drafted or whatever we want to have them."
Stone also wants memorabilia from veterans as well.
