VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

A Valdosta man was behind bars Monday, suspected of robbing his friend at gunpoint.

Police said Travis Lavert Eberhart ran up and robbed 24 year old Kelly McCarthy when McCarthy walked outside at 2503 Churchill Dr. to get something from his car around 4 a.m. Sunday. Police say Eberhart took McCarthy's wallet and then ran off.

Eberhart was arrested a short time later about a block away when officers responding to the scene stopped a car they saw trying to leave the area.

"They were able to make contact with that vehicle and the occupants. Investigators were called out and during the investigation, both patrol and investigation led to the arrest of one of the occupants in the vehicle," said valdosta Police Department Lt. Aaron Kirk.

McCarthy's wallet was recovered and returned to him. As of Monday, the other people in the vehicle were not facing any charges but police were continuing to investigate.

Eberhart was charged with aggravated assault, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
