Lowndes County vets get help from 'House of Heroes'

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Four South Georgia veterans were scheduled, as of Friday, to get some help around their homes thanks to the "House of Heroes" organization.

The South Georgia group periodically goes around and does various odd jobs around the home for South Georgia veterans.

Dr. John Rice is a Korean War veteran who was getting his home power washed, his bushes trimmed, and windows cleaned Friday.

He said it was great to see this group helping out veterans. "Now, at my advanced age and my physical condition, I can't do these things anymore. But, I certainly am grateful to these volunteers for doing what they're doing. They certainly have a great heart and a gracious spirit," Dr. Rice explained.

The work will continue on all four homes on Saturday.
