ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A South Albany man remains in critical condition at the Augusta Burn Center as the Albany Fire Department continues to investigate how he was burned.
Family members say 39-year old Michael Chapman underwent his sixth surgery Friday.
March 28th Chapman suffered second and third degree burns on his back and arms at his home on Dervan Street.
Family members say Chapman has come out of his medically induced coma but is still unable to talk.
"The one piece we are missing now obviously, is Mr. Chapman's statement himself," Albany Fire Chief James Carswell said. "The family has given us permission to talk to the Doctors over there."
Witnesses said Chapman set his clothes on fire while warming himself over the stove, but Chapman's relatives have questions about how he sustained his injuries.
