ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The American Cancer Society honored Albany area cancer survivors Thursday evening.

They were treated to dinner, entertainment and prizes at First Baptist Church.

The Survivors Dinner leads up to Relay for Life on April 24th at Darton College.

Organizers say it's a great family atmosphere and encourage the entire community to join in.

"We have some great activities planned all the way until 5 am in the morning so we invite the whole community to come out and join us because it's the one night where we don't sleep because we recognize that Cancer doesn't sleep,” said Elyse Atha, Relay for Life Community.

"Before I received my diagnosis I had several friends who had been through Cancer, I had a sister that had been through Cancer, and so you always know somebody who the American Cancer Society and so you always know somebody the American Cancer Society can help,” said Laura Wasley, one year cancer survivor.

Another event before the Relay will be a "Glow Run" at Chehaw park April 18th.
