VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Humane society of Valdosta-Lowndes County is trying to encourage people to adopt black animals.
The humane society says black animals get adopted the least because people often don't notice them, so the humane society is coming together with several South Georgia pet rescue organizations to try to help get the animals adopted.
"Say, at Petsmart when we have our black animals in the crates, if the animals are quiet and they lay down in their crates people just don't see them; they just walk right by them. So, we want to have and event to spotlight them," explained Lowndes County Humane Society volunteer Jan McMullen.
A "Back in Black" pet adoption event will be held this Saturday, April 11th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Griner Nissan in Valdosta.
McMullen said around 40-50 cats and dogs are expected to be there.
