VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta Police were investigating Thursday a possible dog fighting ring.
Nine adult dogs and five puppies were taken from 511 2nd Ave. around 11 a.m. Monday after officers discovered them in the back yard while responding to a domestic dispute at the home.
A female at the home at the time told officers that her husband is involved in dog fighting, but the husband was not there.
In a press release, VPD said the dogs did not have proper food, water, and shelter, but neighbor Carolyn Jones said she didn't believe that was true.
"When he come home from work, he always go by there and he feed his dogs," Jones said. "He come up front here, he get a bucket of water, he take [it] back there every two days. But every day, he feed 'em food."
As of Thursday, no charges had officially been filed. The dogs were being housed at the Lowndes County Animal Shelter pending the investigation.
