Construction should start soon on Waffle House

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Interim Downtown Manager Sharlene Cannon said this old Bank of America drive thru won't be here for long.

She said leaders from the construction company will be on the site Monday and they hope to start demolition by the middle of next week.

Last month, ADICA leaders sent the company a letter demanding they get going with the project that was supposed to be finished months ago.

Cannon said she's excited things are finally moving forward.

“Well it's a great relief, needless to say. It's like everything else, it always takes so much longer than you assume it is going to. Their intentions are pure and they are coming and that's the main thing is that they have made it good and they will be here,” said Sharlene Cannon, Interim Downtown Manager.

Construction was supposed to start in September.

The only signal of progress is this sign saying "Waffle House Coming Soon" that went up on the property recently.

Cannon expects construction will start soon after the demolition, but she does not know when the restaurant might open.
